On April 4th, 2019 Bill / W1WAB on Winlink (now known as RMS Express) presented a working session on the configuration and operation of Winlink Express.  The Winlink Express program enables email over RF; although it can be used standalone, using just the Internet.

It operates much like the old Outlook Express mail-client in Windows

To download Winlink : Click Here
The current version is 1-5-20-0

Completing the settings screen with your callsign and password sets up your <<yourcallsign>>@winlink.org email account, as soon as you send an email using the program you can send an email to any regular email account, or to any other <<yourcallsign>>@winlink.org account.

Sending email Select:

  • Message
  • New message
  • Select Winlink message
  • Compose the email
  • Post to the outbox

Next Steps:

  • Open Session
  • Telnet
  • Press ‘start’.

Your message will be sent via the Internet.

Receiving email: same process, just compose and send your email in your normal email client program, but include “//wl2k” (without the “) in the subject line, and send it

If you have a sound-card interconnect device to your radio, such as a Signalink or Rigblaster you can try a VHF session using Uz7HO software.

You can download UZ7HO software at http://uz7.ho.ua/packetradio.htm

Installation instructions: http://n4ser.org/2016/soundcardwinlink-2-uz7ho-replaces-agwpe/

King’s Point has set up a Winlink receiving node that you can connect with using Winlink Express.

To send/receive via the node, start UZ7HO, then Winlink Express, and select “Packet Winlink”

  • Connection type: Direct
  • Callsign: W4KPR-10
  • Tune connected radio to 145.030 and press start

Questions .. and further information on how to use the program on HF, please see Bill/W1WAB, Bill/N1CDO, or Dick/W4NWD.
